The Burg, Photo Zine 1st Edition

Since September 2017, photographer Ben Sharples has been documenting the City of Fitchburg - nicknamed “The Burg” by town residents and students at Fitchburg State University. The city is known for it’s Industrial Mill History and State University. But the period of Industrial prosperity has been over and it’s footprint partially remains to be overtaken with a rapidly growing University
increasing their footprint on the city.

This photo zine primarily focuses on urban landscapes of the city and how they’ve evolved over the years. It includes forty four images taken on 35mm and 120 film both color and black and white. They were taken over the course of a three year period during undergrad at University (2017-2019) and a return trip to the city in (2020) to finish the project.
